Sprint Timing Chain Guides

#1 Post by xvivalve »

The latest crap aftermarket parts are identifying themselves, with the friction coating not being a patch on the resilience of the original.

I've been doing a bit of research this evening and have identified the OE friction material being a specific grade of 'Nylatron' ©. I'm going to see if I can get some used guides stripped and recoated with the correct material, I have a few myself but I will need a quantity to get a decent price, so if you have any used guides, please keep them for the time being...

Thanks Alun. I have kept the old parts from my recent replacement so will pass them on to you when required.

Talking to a supplier this week, following a reminder e-mail exchange with Geoff Sparks in New Zealand, I now have a sample of Nylatron GS which comes in sheet thicknesses similar to that used on our guides. It is a surprisingly hard material, harder than the OE, so I suspect GS is the wrong grade to compare with the OE. It certainly seems robust enough to do the job, but I expect the chain would chatter whilst passing over it, generating quite a bit of noise.

The supplier is only in Coventry, so I'll keep an OE guide in the car and call in next time I'm over that way and see if I can determine a better match...

I have got a couple of "good" ones from spare engines I stripped if that is any help?
