Con Rod bolts/studs

How do you remove the con rod bolts/studs ? is it a matter of knocking, them out from the top of con rod

Is it also possible to remove the con rod bolts while the rods are still in the block ?

They knock out after you have undone the cap but I think you would struggle to do it in situ. And why?
