temperature gauge not working

#1 Post by alvera »

Went out today in my 1850 auto after a three month lay up. All good except the temperature gauge is now not working. Reading on here various cures for this but they all seem to relate to wrong readings. My problem is it's not working at all so I don't know what to check first.Any help appreciated.Alan

First step is to test the sender. Earth the wire that is connected to the sender on any handy bit of nearby engine metal. Switch the ignition on, if the guage rises to full hot, the rest of the system is good and the sender is duff. Which is the most likely fault.

Hi Steve, I have done the test you suggested and the gauge went up so I have ordered a new one and hope that cures it. Thanks again Alan

It might just be that you have developed a bad connection at the sender so I would check that first by giving both bits a good clean.

Fitted the new sender today still not working, so as Richard suggested I crimped the lucar connector and now it works , so probably didn't need a new one so I have now a spare , thanks for your help. Alan
