Bedfordshire / Hertfordshire

#1 Post by Phil »

Hello all,

Some 16 years(!) since my first post, I’ve rejoined the forum and would be interested to know if there are many members in and/or around Bedfordshire and/or Hertfordshire?

I now live in Biggleswade and am shortly off to see my 1850 Dolomite, which has been stored in various places for several years, with the intention to bring in home and see if I can get it back on the road.

Unfortunately, for me, I don’t know much more about cars than 16 years ago, so it would be great if there are any knowledgeable enthusiasts near by. By complete chance I did see a white/cream 1500 in Ashwell last week.

Lastly if anyone knew any reputable transportation companies I’d gladly take recommendations. I will speak to Anthony (listed on the main website) but appreciate he is Midlands based, so a little ‘off patch’.

Thanks,

Phil

Our main website is slowly being updated at the moment as much of the information on it is no longer accurate...
Please note that I am simply a Forum administrator, so please do not contact me unless your question is regarding your Forum account. For general enquiries regarding the Club and its services (membership queries, questions about spares, lapdancing etc) please see https://forum.triumphdolomite.co.uk/vie ... hp?t=20098

Are you enjoying using our forum? If so why not support the owners club which provides it by joining The Triumph Dolomite Club? Help us to preserve these great cars for future generations.
Club membership costs just £30 for one year or £55 for two years. See https://forum.triumphdolomite.co.uk/vie ... =4&t=37824 for details.

Noted, thank you.

I did do a quick search for the answer to this before posting, but is there a formal link between the club and the ‘Triumph Dolomite Club’ Facebook page?

I’m heading there next to ask if there are any owners close to me, too.

No, that group is nothing to do with the Triumph Dolomite Cub. Don't mention the Club on that group, you'll get banned!

There are 2 near identical facebook pages, and a (not very well attended) "club members only" page. The one you want is the "official" Triumph Dolomite club page. The other is moderated by a person violently opposed to the club and all it stands for. I left the page in protest several years ago!

There is also a pretty good Sprint dedicated page and others for Toledo, FWD models, etc

There is also Dan Brown's Dolomite and Toledo parts for sale/wanted page which is quite useful.

But for good tech advice and superior archiving, you can't beat this forum!

As far as transport is concerned I have a tame driver who has both a transporter and a truck/trailer combo and is very reasonable on price. But he's also up in the Midlands, based at Gailey near the M6 above Wolverhampton. If you can't find anyone more local, I can give you his number, or google Shipley on the net.

Thanks for your replies. I have since also joined the Official Triumph Dolomite Club Facebook page. I'll probably post similar messages here and there in the hope of casting the net far and wide for advice and tips.

Thanks, Malcolm. Much appreciated, and an offer I'll be sure to take up! Great to know there is someone nearby.

I went to see my Dolomite this Saturday and was introduced to somebody who can move it for £1/mile on a round trip, which I'm happy with. Whilst I wasn't able to give it anything close to a full inspection, I was pleasantly surprised with how it had faired. It was probably just the nostalgia of seeing it again, which will no doubt fade once it's on the driveway and the full extent of deterioration becomes clear! I think I also had very low expectations...

Car now on my driveway, and I (re)joined the club today.

I'll start a 'restoration' thread shortly, which will largely comprise of me asking how to do the most simple of tasks.

No, DO mention the Club on that group, especially the benefits membership offers and the parts we can uniquely supply, as often as possible too...

The very same one. I do believe Colin and I (or maybe Ken and I?) came to your home on occasion. I forget exactly why now, perhaps for a part for Colin's car?

I attended a show at the NEC where I helped to install an overdrive gearbox on a 1500SE on the club stand.

Thanks Malcom - I'd love to take you up on this! I think I've sent you a PM, but it's saying it's in my outbox... Not sure if that means it hasn't actually sent, or if you haven't seen it yet.
