1500 fwd clutch problems

#1 Post by CarlScott »

Looking for some advice I recently brought a 1500 fwd with a noisy thrust bearing have had the clutch plate reconditioned fitted a thrust bearing from rimmers along with a new guide tube and clutch arm and I'm getting a rattle noise if I rest my foot on the clutch pedal the noise quietens does anyone have any idea what the problem could be I have set the clutch using a 3mm plate is it normal for the bearing to rotate with the clutch with the pedal not pressed down I'm not familiar with how these work any help would be much appreciated

Hi Carl, it`s years since I worked on a front wheel drive Triumph and I cannot remember the layout of the operating mechanism. However there is usually a pull off spring of some kind to ensure the release bearing moves away from the pressure plate, could this be missing?. Does the clutch operation feel normal otherwise, no juddering etc?, I am wondering if the reconditioned plate could be warped preventing the pressure plate sitting down flat, as that would mean the part that contacts the bearing might be out of true and catching, causing the rattle. Sorry I cannot be of more help, but hopefully some FWD owners may be along with more ideas.
