Latest addition to panel range

#1 Post by xvivalve »

I'm really pleased to announce this introduction as it was well before lockdown that I first broached the subject with the fabricator:

Inner wing strengtheners 814633/4 complete with 718010/1 flanges, the former being a very common location for concealed rot.

More complex than they look, they have a point of inflection in order to closely fit against the inner wing/bulkhead junction, and despite having NOS pattern panels for both the strengtheners and inner wings it was getting this angle correct that eluded manufacture. A common issue when trying to replicate a pressing with a fabrication.

The breakthrough came last year when I acquired a rotten shell that rendered a few repair sections for both the restoration of VA579 and also Nick Butler's mimosa Sprint, which upon removing the front wings also displayed sufficient sound metal in this area to allow me to cut a pair of jigs for the fabricator to offer up each partly made panel to prior to welding up whilst the correct angle is maintained.

To ease both postage and installation, the bar which fixes these strengtheners to the rear face of the suspension turret within the engine bay is supplied lose. The original 718010/1 flanges do have a captive nut to take the top fixing bolt for the wheel arch mud shields which is missing on this first run of panels, though the locating hole is there, so when fitting you'll need to tack a nut in place. I'll provide the fabricator with a supply of the correct nuts when I need to re-order.

The panels cost £95.00 for each side, with free postage to UK addresses, non UK addresses at additional cost as appropriate, available through Club spares in the normal manner.
