Rocker Cover Breather Outlet - 74 Sprint

#1 Post by James R »

Hi All

Could someone confirm for me please whether the small piece of metal that sits in the rocker cover (the breather, so the one that has a rubber pipe connected to the carbs pipework) is a push fit into the rocker or whether it should be fixed in some manner.

I ask because I have removed the rubber pipe as it needs replacing and the small metal piece came away with it. When I locate it it seems like a reasonably tight fit, so assuming its a simple push fit, but wanted to check that it hasn't actually broken off from the rocker cover as I cant find anything in the manuals.

Thanks in advance..

It's just a push fit. If it's too loose you can use some anaerobic sealant like Loctite.

Yes, it's just a push fit, but originally it was an interference push fit, so tight it shouldn't come out, even under considerable persuasion.

When I encounter one that you can push in with one finger and pulls out with the hose, I glue them back in with Araldite or similar epoxy adhesive.

The reason I go to these lengths is not for convenience, but to ensure a good seal on the breather that I KNOW is not going to affect airflow/mixture/running etc and that won't fall/vibrate out while i'm driving.

Have been called out to several Sprints lately with running issues that turned out to be no more than cracked or insecure breather hoses. Like all other rubber products these days, available breather hose quality has gone right down the pan. Even from respected suppliers. But a small air draw around this hose neck is harder to diagnose, I reckon it's better to be safe than sorry!

Thanks Gents, Appreciate the information.

Its still a tight fit having now attempted to relocate it, so for now I wont fix it permanently, but if I notice any running changes, that will be my first port of call..

Thanks again..
