ALMOST BACK ON THE ROAD AGAIN AFTER LONG LAY UP

#1 Post by ballynacoy53 »

Hi all

I wonder does anyone know this car from when it used to reside in the uk or indeed from when it moved to the south of Ireland for a few years before changing hands again and hiding in Northern Ireland for a further period before I fell in with it a couple of years ago.

I have been in contact with the 2nd owner I think he was - it was he who had a lot of work done to the car in mainland UK maybe 25 years ago...and there is a very detailed history file of the time he owned the car.

Car running a blueprinted and balanced engine (Built by none other than Ken Clarke) with a group one cam and 45 webers, red top facet pump in boot, malpassi fuel regulator overdrive on 2nd third and 4th gears, uprated suspension and bushings, vented discs and uprated calipers (hence the non standard wheels), oil cooler and kenlowe fan. Fairly standard inside with black original interior, moto-lita steering wheel and combined smiths oil pressure and water temp guage.

Condition wise its not original paint but whatever work was done a long time ago was to a good standard - no rust or rot present these days. Since I have owned it the work done has really been recommissioning the clutch and brakes, changing tyres, and fitting the fuel regulator, a new alternator and replacing the front shocks and springs with some Gas Spax adjustables that I had in the garage. Also I took great delight in fitting a genuine Group One exhaust manufactured back in the day by Janspeed that I had been keeping for such a vehicle and a genuine new old stock period sunstrip from back in the day.
Car running quite nice though I don't feel like giving it a hard time like what I would have back in the eighties when I first owned a tuned up Sprint for the road!
Be interested to know how it ended up in south of Ireland and make contact with that owner to find out what happened to it during those missing years!
