Sill replacement

#1 Post by RJW-1500HL »

Good evening all, my first post on here.
I am currently in the middle of replacing the outer and strengthener section of the sill.
I have removed all the scrap material, leaving just the inner sill in place.
I am not sure exactly how to proceed
I bought the club outer sills before stripping mine down, so I wasn't aware that I would need a section that I would call the step sill, the bit that goes on top.
I don't know whether I should press up my own step sill, which would probably be the cheapest option and use the club outer sill ad originally intended, or should I buy a complete outer sill from Rimmers?
Also, does anyone have any experience with Rimmers outer sills? Are they any good?
Thank you, Ryan.

Hi Ryan
When i replaced mine the step was rusted from the rear door back wards, so i had to make a new step, how much of your step have you cut out, if you've already cut most of the step out, it may be easier to buy a full sill from Rimmers

Hi Dave,
Thanks for getting in touch.
I have cut out all of the step.
I thought a new outer sill from rimmers might be quicker to completion.
I'm not sure as of yet as to how I can upload photos

Hi Ryan, welcome to the forum!

If you have a look at the restorations library on here: viewforum.php?f=19 and pay particular attention to the threads created by 'James467', you will see some superb restorations carried out with supporting pictures and explanation. Many of James' resto's have required sill replacement, so you will see some good guidance.

Make a cuppa and enjoy reading them!

Kind Regards

Matt
