Avo rear damper bushes

#1 Post by Henk »

The bushes on my avo rear shocks are completely shot. Since avo is 't around anymore, what do people use for replacement?
Does a set of superflex bushes fit the non standard damper?

I’d suggest removing the old bush, measure the dimensions and compare with the standard Dolomite bush in the Superflex catalogue.

My AVOs were set up like yours and lots of people advised me to modify the standard top mounts so that the spring sits in the top mount like the standard spring rather than in the AVO top mount…

Changed my Bush’s to ones supplied by Rally Design in Kent.

Can’t remember the part number.
But just measure yours up.

In my memory the spring diameter of the AVO's is smaller than the standard size. Hence I went for the smaller top mount. Why and how modify the standard top mounts?

Thanks guys, I compared the datasheet with the sizes provided at superflex.co.uk but to no avail. I'll look into Rally Design

The issue appears to be that with AVO dampers the weight of the car is on that red bush, whereas with standard / GAZ shocks the weight of the car is on the spring. This causes that small bush to deteriorate very quickly…

I think I get it, and you're right: in my setup the top bush carries the weight. For the rear it will be an easy fix, the ID of the original spring and the current sprong are the same, so using the original seat was always an option here. Shame I didn't realize this earlier.
Thanks!

Still no one with experience using Superflex with AVO? Superflex itself isn't communicating at the moment, no answer since last weekend.

Superflex.co.uk and chriswitor.co.uk don't answer emails at the moment. Found out that AVO was conscripted by Turbo Technics LTD. Contacted them and they're able to send a new set of bushes, made from new type of rubber: hopefully more durable than the red PU.
