Removable steering wheel

Has anybody fitted a detachable steering wheel to a Dolomite steering column?
My Latham F2 is a tight fit and I am looking at making getting in and out easier.
Car currently has a Dolomite steering wheel on the top section of a Dolomite column.

I've no experience of that and suggest that a specialist column with product design liability would be required, but would fitting a smaller diameter wheel be an easier option?

Yep. I fitted one on Lolo and hated it so much I never even drove it. The boss to change the wheel over moves it an inch closer to your chest, then the quick release adds another 2 inches. You almost end up steering from the back seat. Especially with a dished steering wheel.
You can get extra thin quick release adapters, but I'm not convinced how good they are. Also depending on the splines on your column, one of the adapters isn't massively easy to find. I can't remember which, think the code ends in 066
I have seen some weld on adapters, I vaguely remember someone having one fitted, Pete in his green beauty I think.
But you really need to trust the welder that does it.

Thanks for your reply. I have seen shorter on other cars. Recently I saw a Ford based special where the boss and adapter were less than 2 in total..
