Nuts and bolts?!

#1 Post by TSwede »

Hi all
I have a rather fundamental question… about the nuts and bolts holding my Dolomite together! I am in the process of restoring it.. the dismantling bit was pretty straightforward but putting things back on less so. Example being door hinges (hinge to door)… what bolts are these? I know they are half inch but what pitch? I don’t seem to have any that fit.
Is it possible to buy a big assortment of useful nuts and bolts for a project like this?
I am used to dealing with metric…
Thanks
Tony

Door bolts are 5/16" UNF.

90%+ of the bolts in a Dolomite are UNF thread, with some UNC into aluminium, like the gearbox to adaptor, inlet and exhaust manifold attachment.

1/4", 5/16" and 3/8" will cover most of the the car and 7/16" and a few 1/2" will do the majority of the suspension.

Certain of the bolt part numbers are also codified to give both the type, pitch and length

This is all super helpful! Thanks all so far! I feel I should buy a mixed collection… save me messing about in dribs and drabs.

That was a labour of love… spending two days measuring and bagging up all the nuts and bolts! I’m hoping not to go to those lengths… but who knows!?!?

Marvellous reference anyway…

Thanks indeed
