Israeli 1300 FWD

#1 Post by 1300mash »

As you may know, the 1300 was built under licence in Israel but with a 1500 engine due to local manufacturing regulations (each company had one engine size). After 1970 it was sold for a few years with a 1300 engine but in a more basic form. My contact in Israel, Oded Furst who has one of the 1500cc cars described the base version to me but until now I have not seen a picture. It's actually not much different externally as it still has the full hub caps but they have a blank plug in the centre. There are no overriders and you might just be able to see the chrome strip is missing from the bonnet too:

Does anyone need a arabic translation??
seeing as you mentioned overriders do you have a spare rear one in need of a good home?
whats the chances of someone in israel having the pressing tools still laying around?
also note the steering wheel is on the wrong side :D

I "think" the writing at the bottom is a list of dealers - if you look cloes you can see what look to be phone numbers.

Yes it is most definitely Hebrew and not Arabic!!!
There was a brochure produced in the language too (see below).

The white car Nathan has posted is Oded's. Although they were popular at the time he believes his may be the only survivor and certainly the only roadworthy one.

Incidentally, the 1300cc car sold at that time was the Japanese Hino Contessa, which actually has a look of Triumph about it, not surprising since it was styled by Michelotti.

Actually it's rear engined too so it does have something in common with the R8! The Coupe is prettier:
