Sierra Brake mod

Have spoke about this before but am now actually serious about getting it done to my car. Brake fade is a real problem with my car/driving.

Have a mate who works for days whos going to inquire about the sierra parts. What about caliper brackets? Isn't there someone making them, Phil or someone you know??? How much would a pair cost me?

Don't forget, you need the your hubs turned down and the Sierra discs drilled for corect PCD & the centres machined to take the hubs, set of calipers from the scrappy plus the brackets. All in it will cost around £200. Jon maybe able to do the brackets & machining for about £90 plus P&P.

Who's Jon and where is he? I have spare dolly front suspension so could drop the parts off whilst keeping my car on the road.

What's done about a flexi pipe? As one end is metric thread and the other end would need to be imperial wouldn't it?

Adam, did I not send you all the gumph on how to do the conversion? You need to make up a copper pipe 350mm. long with the standard fitting on one end & 10mm. fitting on the other.

Jon is the chap that designed the conversion, he lives in the Hampshire area.

To be honest Adam & knowing your situation ie. Student, you'd be better off spending your money elsewhere on the car.

I'd suggest buying good quality tyres first. Saves having to brake so much...

and learn how to drive fast without cooking the brakes. You aren't on a track so it might be safer for your driving licence to avoid pushing things that hard.

I hear stories that F1 champion Jim Clark was so gentle on his lotus that the mechanics used to change the brakes and tyres every other race out of embarassment at not having anything to do...

I'm talking about single track lanes where your (un) lucky to have 100 metres between straights... I can drive them easily enough. My car draws the line way before I do!!!

You may mock and think I drive like a twat... but I do drive thse lanes way beyond what these cars were designed with in mind. If I don't get them then I'll get bored...

Or maybe what I will have tommorrow will solve it

Yes, you can use these on the Sierra conversion as well.

Despite the balance being almost the same, the entry velocity tends to be substantially higher these days and trail braking through the bends throws a fair bit of heat into the old discs

I read somewhere the best way to scrub off speed was to put the car into the corner sideways and use the flank as an air brake...

Are the golf discs waterproof then?

With Adam's unique approach to driving perhaps a better mod for him might be to replace the accelerator with a simple on/off switch for idle and flat out...
