Panel Gap

#1 Post by Mad Mart »

In the gaps between the top of the front wings & the window scuttle, should this have sealer of some description just below the level of the wings or not? Similar to where the wings meet the top of the front panel.

No, it's an open channel on all I've seen.

don't seal

If you seal it up, you may create a rot trap. its not briliant to start with, but water from the screen tends to runaround that area and from the base of the cowl under the wing. At least you have 1/2 a chance to clean it with a welding filler rod

i've seen some filled and some open. meant to be open. not certain but could be an intended path for water run off?

just for comedy value, the P O of orange had stodged that gap full of silicone, along with every other nook n cranny he could find. quite theraputic peeling it all off, but better things to do with my time really!

those gaps were also about 5mm ?! also wings were sitting a similar amount proud of the front panel and slightly high...

same plank above had his mate replace the wings, gods gift to welding this guy, left the welding points for the old wings on when they were cut off, and just welded new wings on top. what a star player.

Cheers guys, that seems pretty unanimous then. What threw me is that my track car has been filled. There is filler/sealant between the top of the front wings & the front panel though...isn't there?

Theres supposed to be a line there though, between the front of the wings and the front panel. The front end on my car now came with sealer between the window panel and wings.
