How to move a car with no steering rack

My TR7 has the engine in it I plan to put in my Dolly now that its blown its head gasket. Problem is that instead of having an engine crane to lift the engine out we've used a lifting block tied to a beam on a garages roof. My garage roof has very spindley rusty beams on it. Richards however has nice wooden ones that hold the weight of an engine quite well

Seee...

But my garage is about 300 yards away from his. That isn't far to push a car but when it has no steering rack it's a real pain.

The idea I came up with is once we've battled with the wheels pushing it the 30 yards out of the lanes on to the road we jack the front up on a trolley jack. Then tie a rope to a car and to the part of the trolley jack that has the lever inserted to lift it up and down

So with that part of the jack being pulled along the jack is less likey to tip over...

Any ideas that don't cost anything?

length of rope between the two pickup points for the rack. steer it go-kart style sat on the roof. Yee ha.

push the car backwards and it should only steer when you push the front (which is now at the back) the front wheels will be dragging so will follow the rear end (which is now at the front)

this makes sense to me but ive been on the jack daniels. 8)

Thanks Dave... And Justyn I thought as the wheels are castered to follow the direction of travel, thats how they straghten up by them selves, theat pushin the car wouldn't be a problem. But no they want to go there own way...

I'd offer a hand but I can't till I'm back!

I'm sure you'll work out a way to drag it down :)

My dads car has or had 131hp... I'm sure it would just pull it

But that would mean I'd need to tell them I've bought another car... Yes I have a Project Stealth too. The only one to be hiding it from his Parents maybe?

go nick a couple of shopping trolleys, gas axe them apart and use them as castors....tack weld them to your subframe if you like. You will get a new subframe with my V8 engine, so you won't need yours

£50 for the engine, gearbox and subframe and you have yourself a deal!

Or I will do a straight swap. A 1300 engine and gearbox

£75 and a hand shake

Care to be a bit more specific.

A Hand Shake got a different meaning East of the Severn Bridge?.

Well that's got the gearbox anyway
