Insurance

#1 Post by xvivalve »

Having successfully increased the agreed value of the Quicksprint to £7,500 recently, I've now received a letter from the broker, Norton, asking the following:

"Please confirm if vehicle URX ***N is nitrous oxide fuelled. And if so, explain why. Should you attend special car events, please state how many and how your car may be involved at the meetings."

Strange question really beings as I declared the NOS along with all the modifications when seeking quotation from them.

Anyone else experienced similar?

Nitrous oxide fuelled? Not possible, N2O's only an oxidiser not a fuel!

Anyway, 'yes' to the above in basic terms.....why? "Performance enhancement (power adder)/overtaking aid".

I suspect what they're asking you in an offhand fashion is whether the car is for heavy trackday/drift/drag useage and if so how often and to what extent :)

May be that they're looking to see what they should take into consideration come next renewal, or in general, to reflect upon the prices.

This may be a non-answer in itself, it's one of those merry bitter evenings  :sozzled:

Can't you just put, fitted by previous owner, car bought in completed state as a response to the why comment?

I would put regarding the car events, the car is taken to shows, usually ones with static displays hosted by the dolomite club for whom I am an area rep. I do plan on taking the car to a track day at some point in the future. (Don't we all?)

they ask some dumb questions. I got asked what were the qualifications of the person who fitted the wider wheels to my land rover. I put something like he had a jack handy. They didn't come back to me.

I am forever filling out modified vehicle request forms. We have a rover 214, but the sprint, the range rover bobtail, the disco bobtail and the mini are all heavily modified. Never caused a problem once i actually filled the forms in. Adrian flux do all of mine. Good insurance if you can be bothered waiting through all theautomated phone instructions.

trouble is theres plenty of folk who bin their cars on a track day, drive them out the circuit for a few miles then roll it into a ditch for the inevitable claim, and i guess the insurance folk are wise to this...

Renewal time; premium rises to £250 for AV of £7500, all mods now listed as schedule; not too bad I suppose...

its £130 for mine (just renewed), and mine isn't too sluggish. Agreed value at 3500, all mods declared, track day cover included, miles limited to 3000 a year (managed 500 last year :( )

Mart might be slightly older than me :)

Don't have that, what does it cover David?

This insurance is extended to include cover whilst the vehicle is being used on a track day organised by a professional body.

Cover is for accidental damage to the vehicle in non competitive events

Cover is for policy holder only

Vehicle must carry a working fire extinguisher

1k excess if you have no previous trackday experience. 500 if you have prev experience

Does not cover irresponsible acts of negligence or diliberately disobeying circuit rules

doesn't cover paint chips caused by gravel traps

doesn't cover you if you are pi$$ed or stoned

So basically, if I total my car by accident I'd get 2000 back on it, if I make it through the first day and total it next time I get 2500k back on it. (I just checked I have it agreed at 3k not 3500!)

Came as standard with the policy.....cost no extra money and the premium was 99.75, £130 I mentioned earlier was the other 'car' that came for renewal at the same time (only 8 different in reg numbers, but a world away in capability!).

I guessed you were older ;)
