Wessex and New Forest Run 2009

#1 Post by Johnny D »

Hello

been lurking around the forum for a while now, and although not a dolomite owner, in the past we've had a few in the houshold, I own a Tr7 yeh i know but some one has too. my main reason for joining this forum though is to see what going on Triumph wise and maybe get a bit of friendly inter club participation in your own events or other events going on elsewhere,

I love Triumphs basically so the first event that is just for all triumphs down here in the South is the New Forest Run. re-introduced in the calander two years ago after an absence of quite a few years.

For those of you who attended last years i'm sure you would agree it was very well organised,

Now i remember this run from 1989 - 1991 when there used to be over 150 cars attending, when every other car was a dolimite or 1500 so i'm keen to see more of these wonderful cars this year, so i hope you don't mind my intrusion but here are the details.

Myself and Justyn did this event last year we were the only two dolomites out of a cast of well over a hundred Triumphs, really enjoyed it, im sure we will do it again this year hopefully with a few more dollys from local owners of which there are many.

Just as a footnote to this idea

I love driving my car and if i can help support one of your runs in any part of the country i'll be pleased to try and help. i know from experience there's nothing more downheartening than organising a treasure hunt or run then only two cars turn up.

or even maybe an invited car club night

again i guess i remember back twenty years ago when all our cars were every day runners so all the groups had plenty of support and on one occassion a triumph BBQ treasure hunt was arranged. where no more than 200 people attended ending in one hell of a rounders match,

But alas. no matter what club we belong to we have a finite number of members who actually join in most things we arrange. so if i can help in boosting the number of cars turning up for events, i will. again with anything i can't promise..

Another tarmac rally event going on at Goodwood on the 7th Feb see the link approx 85 cars taking part anything from a 1970's escort to a subura

I'll be at the South Downs (either on the start or finish line) as I'm a member of the organising club, Southsea Motor Club. It is free for spectators and there is always plenty of action to enjoy :)

85 cars is a slight exaggeration, usually 40-ish, we'd never cope running it with 80 cars, there is barely enough time as it is!

Just to keep this thread off-topic...

Photos from the South Downs Stages are online here: http://www.mandh-photography.co.uk/even ... tages2009/

The event was won by car 4, mk1 Escort, followed by the Celica (car 3) and TR7V8 (car 10).

The RS200 didn't actually manage to complete a stage, breaking down every time....

Hello all,
I have also had my ticket arrive for this run and very much looking forward to it. I'll be in my TR7 though, Sorry!!!!!!
Fingers crossed I'm hoping to wake my Toledo up from it's 11year "sleep" this year (If the economic doom doesn't get too bad!!!) so maybe I'll take that one next year. :)
