POR15 do some jollop called Metal Ready that is supposed to kill the rust and coat it ready for the POR15 paint. Seems to work - changes the colour from brown to grey but who knows long term.
To stand a fighting chance you have to coat both sides with paint to seal it. There's no substitute ...

Underbody and suspension paint
The restoration of the sprint is finally underway. I can't shot blast underneath, so can't get a really clean surface to paint over so there will be some rust residue.
Poor Instructions
You should find that the conversion casting is in two parts and the inner part slides up so the O ring seals when you tighten with the hollow screw. The outer casting lip seals to the large seal in the block by pressure exerted by screwing the filter on.
recore
Watch that the recore is for a Sprint and not an 1850, I was caught with this many years ago.
John Glenn and OUE
Would that be OUE 829 M ?
I looked at and almost bought this car 2.5 years ago.
If the paintwork and interior had been better, or if the chap had dropped his price a bit more I'd have had it.
Anyone on here own it now?
Look?
No, the e-bay pics and description say it all. I've owned and worked on old cars for the past 20 years. The description is always better than the car! "Surface Rust" means rot. "Surface rust that has taken hold" means rot and big gaping holes etc. The mechanics are probably not much better.<br ...

£500 White Sprint
If you didn't feel inclined to finish Neil's car (which looks superb on the latest photo Neil - and well worth £600 IMHO) I would steer clear. This looks more of £100 donor vehicle to me and you aint going to restore a car like this or most of the sheds on e-bay for less than the price of the ...

Insurance
I paid £420 TPF&T on a Sprint when I was 18 - and that was in 1984, even though this was six weeks pay and the car only cost me £650.
It would cost less than £100 FC now because I'm an old sensible git who thinks the brakes are more important than the engine. I no longer out drag xr3s at traffic ...

Sandglow
Chicken Korma is a far nicer colour (before and after). Sandglow is that hearing-aid beige colour, less desirable than Neil's turd brown. Can't believe this was ever a standard Sprint colour.
Projects
Talking of project cars, has anyone seen the Sprint in Ri**er* 'used' spares section inside near the counter. Shell in primer, all in bits etc, asked the guy and he said £4000. I repeated the question, and he still said £4000!!
Potential buys
I'd expect a near minter 1850 for £1200. I passed on a 'superb' sprint at £2400 18 months ago because I thought it was only worth £2000, and guess what, the guy is still trying to sell it. (It was good - but not that good)
