Strut Brace
Recent thread asks if there is an off the shelf strut brace for a Sprint. Does a Sprint need a strut brace?
In modern cars with Macpherson struts the top of the strut tower takes the reaction from the spring and is also a suspension pick up point. When the bodywork flexes under load the strut towers move, usually upwards and inwards, thereby altering the suspension geometry. A brace stops the inward movement, or at least lessens it.
The suspension on the Sprint is located entirely on the subframe and the spring towers take only the spring reactions so even if the bodywork flexes under load the suspension geometry should remain unchanged. Or maybe I have got it all wrong!
Has anyone out there fitted a brace and if so has it made a difference?

Re: Strut Brace
Good question, as I'm in the middle of making a brace myself. I was speaking to Jon (of Sierra brake conversion fame) about his home made brace, today at Castle Combe. He said he wasn't sure if it made any difference though.

Re: Strut Brace
I've seen some on the other racers. Whether it makes any difference??! Wouldn't hurt I suppose.
Re: Strut Brace
The Moosehunter Sprint had one on. Perhaps he'll enlighten us!

Re: Strut Brace
It could hurt, if it does nowt it's just ballast! Build a telltale would be the only way to be sure.
Re: Strut Brace
Mart - Next time you are on track you can borrow my Ally Strut brace if you like. I'd like to know if it does anything. The PO reckoned it made a significant difference.
Re: Strut Brace
Yea, I'll give it a go. I've put finishing mine on hold, unless someone can definately say that it does make a difference. I had assumed (rightly or wrongly) that it would make a difference.
