Re: re..
Back to the minis, in any case...

Down the pub this evening with my mate, he mentioned that when he tries to get a gear at the moment it gets a lot of grinding. This set off a little bell in my head, so I asked if it had got progressively harder to do things like engage reverse, or shift quickly from 2nd to 3rd. He said it had.

So my question is, what is the correct amount of travel for the rod on a mini clutch slave cylinder? I'm going to go and check it this weekend, I'm hoping that this will be all it needs to get moving again.

Re: re..
There was a simple mod on the earlier Mini's that had the long clutch arm.

Warm gently (Just above the adjusting nut) and bend toward's the flywheel cover.

Mini's still love em.

Jonner's said,
is to weigh the whole thing in and use the 60 odd quid for the purchase of a dolly 1300. Then you will remove another death trap from the roads and end up with a nice car....
Minis....almost as crap as VW beetles...

Suppose most Mini owners say the same about Dolomite's

1980 Dolomite SprintV8 (360bhp of TVR AJP V8 Pumping Alloy Coming soon !)
2002 Citroen Xsara 2.0 HDi Estate.... Part's delivery Vehicle.
They laugh at me because I am different. I laugh at them because they are all the same!)
Talking of which....
On the subject of Minis... we got a nice '89 G mini 30 (99 for youngest son six months ago 'cos we couldn't find his first choice of a decent Dolly 1300.

Anyway.... Gearbox is now sounding a bit like a straight cut but more painful!
So now of course he wants to find a 1275 engine and box to put in, but I am reluctant to go the ebay route because you never know what youve bought 'til it's in and running so I am recommending we just take it out and fix whichever 'cog' has got a lump out of it? That way it stays original as well (which was one of the reasons we got this one in the first place - no boy racer mods and a wad of service history)

So, just checking whether anybody has anything lying about at the back of the garage that is worth considering before I make a start?

Or of course... anybody got a nice 1300/1500 dolly going 'cheep cheep'

Re: noise
Thanks George but no... only present in 1st 2nd & 3rd - also its more clattery than anything. Probably a chipped gear on the 1st motion / layshaft methinks.
