Dashboard loom

#1 Post by tinweevil » Sun Sep 11, 2005 9:42 am

What do I ask the seller of this loom to establish if it's the early one I need for VA41?
If it says 'rocker type' hazard switch then it stands half a chance. I don't know if there were any other differences. I'm sure someone else will confirm.
When I got a Sprint/ hl dash for my TC, I got the terminals from someone online and adpated it to suit.
But if you don't have a loom at all, then I can't see why this one would cause any problems. You ought to double check the wiring and make sure the connectors on the harness match where they go to on the loom, but it's a peice of cake to swap pins around in the plugs <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... /smile.gif ALT=":)">

IIRC the hazards are on spade/ lucar connectors, so whatever the case if you have them they should wire up fine I'd think. If you don't have hazards, you can either use this opportunity to wire them up, or ignore them and have a reduntant switch.

Basically, at worst you'll have to do a bit of fettling <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... /smile.gif ALT=":)">

Thanks guys. I was referring to this thread where Alun said it would not be straight forward to change the dash in VA41 from the late to the early type. I f the one on ebay is the late type I may as well bodge the one thats in the car already to suit the earlier dash (once I find one of those). On the whole tho if I'm going to change the dash I'd rather plug the correct loom in with it than start chopping.
The eBay one appears by the description to be the early type. What you would then need is an early and late wiring diagram to find out what pins to put where in the multiplugs and which ones to re-route completely. For instance individual or combined direction flasher indicators, HRW indicator or not, HWL warning light or not, etc etc
