I'm surprised you think this engine is bullet proof.<br>
I had a 2 litre cav sports hatch...head cracked thru a valve seat...took ages to get a replacement which came off a rekord in the end. Then it used to eat hydraulic valve lifters...one even came to bits on me and made some horrible grinding noises. Then I bought a GT/J with a misfire....round cam lobe!<br>

Good cars though that handled really well. Never did understand why you could get a mk2 cav sri 130 with the 2 liter familly 2 engine (as in the carlton) yet the manta had the 1.8 in carb form only. Madness.<br>

A mants would have been a far better chassis for the red top than the mk2 atsra, which was quite a nasty car really if very quick. <br>
