I'm measuring up my 4HA axle to fit at the moment (which it does quite well).

I was going to reweld some standard dolly mounting points and fit a panhard rod, however the standard dolomite set up isnt exactly perfect.

And my axle already has mounting points for a rwd escort 5 link set up.

For about £250, I can buy all the necessary weld in mounting boxes, adjustable rose jointed link rods and coilover turrets which will result in a very securely fixed axle with good geometry (the spring/damper will act on the axle, not on the trailing arm, the pinion angle will remain constant when the axle moves).

I'm going to measure it up off bother in laws escort to see if it will work and to get an idea of complexity but it should work.

I'm sure the fuel tank and exhaust will need relocating though(poss to a side exit design).

Does anyone know if its been done before on a Dolly?

If not, I might take the plunge and resign myself to not having a working Dolomite this year.

re:axle
is it not possible to fit an independant rear axle off something like a 2.0/2.3 sierra or would this involve major engineering skill!<img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... lasses.gif ALT="8)">

Re: re:axle
its got to be possible but probably beyond the skills of a diy mechanic.

A live axle is much easier and probably just as good for circuit use.

I think some kit cars use the Sierra IRS set up though.

Re: re:axle
5 linking update

Borrowed some escort turrets and link boxes to see how it fits and with a bit of trimming it'll fit easily, too easily in fact - I'm trying to find the catch.

I've decided this is the way to go for the perfect axle location and I'll be investing in a 4-link axle bar kit, coilover damper turrets and a Panhard rod kit from Peter Lloyd Rallying which should set me back about £230.

I'll keep a photo log of the work involved for reference by others.

Major surgery.
Sorry if I'm teaching my grandma the oeuf trick but:

Somewhere recently I read 'In this class you must have the same basic suspension layout, transmission, bodywork....'. Have you checked you aren't going to fall foul of this? If I'm understanding you right you are changing most of the rear suspension geometry and a few lumps of major structural bodywork to accomodate it.
Rallying have an interesting second hand board, this being the edge of the valleys some of it may be a little HOT though.

Should be interesting - definitely the way to go.

Didn't happen to leave a mount for a Watts linkage on it did he??

Re: 5 Link
Tinweevil - I'm changing from road production to modified class where transmission mods are free.

Sprinting Scrutineers dont check in that much detail unless your in a championship anyway.

John - There isnt a watts linkage mount which is a shame but it could be done.

I think I'll start with a panhard rod though. Softly softly catchee monkey.
