Last night I receieved a call from a woman calling on behalf of a friend of hers who owns an 1850, she started off by saying that the car had failed it`s MOT on a "Top front suspension bearing", never heard of that before, they don`t have a beaing just the mounting plate sandwiched between 2 bushes and pressed metal washers. I gave her the part numbers of the bushes as I thought this would be the most likeley cause of her friends problem. I don`t really see what else it could be, seems that it` a case of an MOT tester not knowing what he`s dealing with. Anyway. I said I would ask the question to you chaps in case i`m missing something so feel free to tell me my assumptions are wrong.

Top strut mount bearing??????
Re: Top strut mount bearing??????
I'd hazard a guess at it being a corroded turret top; ie where the top strut bears...

I doubt a tester would be able to discern the detail if the bushes had failed?

Re: Top strut mount bearing??????
I guess so. I did say to her that it could be the actual strut top mount had corroded away, although unlikeley as it`s fairly heavy guage metal and I have certainly never seen on rot, not the same can be said for the turret as you say.
