Stub Axles

#1 Post by BDN712V » Tue Sep 26, 2006 4:02 pm

We may have covered this recently, but I cannot find a post on it, so here goes!

Having inspected my stub axles, they are shot, in that they have worn heavily owing to bearing 'issues'. Seeing as I'm about to fit new bearings, I thought it worthwhile to replace the stub axles at the same time BUT no-where seems to have them listed on the internet.

Does anyone know if they are available anywhere?
Stub axles

I looked into this a while back and you're right, there's none about at the moment. One of the Triumph specialists I've chatted to at various shows is prepared to get some more made using a new one I have as a pattern.

Who else would be interested in some ?

I'll have...

..4, I think. It would make sense to replace those on the other car as well, judging by the other bits and pieces I've so far found...
Spitfire ones? They look very similar, take the same wheel bearings and a very similar if not identical brake caliper...
So...

...does anyone have any Stag or Spitfire stub axles kicking around that they might be able to compare with the Dolly ones? Or do I need to go out and buy one of each in hope?!!
You sure about that jonners? Dolly bearings are common to GT6s not spits. The GT6 stub might be ok.

I've a spit pair somewhere.
Not sure now...

#8 Post by Jon Tilson » Mon Oct 02, 2006 9:41 am

Later GT6's had 5.5J wheels, which do fit a Spit okay.
Not sure if the bearings were uprated becuase of this.

Dolly and Spit hubs look very similar and the bearing fit method is identical but the discs have a bigger offset on a dolly so thinking about it dolly stub axles must be longer...
Sorry...should have looked at the parts books.
Were they direct fit Daz, or did it take any machining?

The Stag one a straight foward fit.
These are what I have on the Stagomite.
Hardest bit is pressing out the old Pin from the Hub.
But it is slightly longer.

I'm sure are friend's up north may give you the size's of both.
They fit straight in
U will need a hydraulic press to get your old ones out
DONT,,, heat the carrier and use a hammer to get them out !
