Re: Lumenition
I know 3 of the wires (Black, blue, red) should go to the optical trigger on the dizzy (assuming its optronic).

The other red should be ignition 12v +ve, black is earth, brown is coil -ve.

Dont get then wrong - it could blow the switching unit

Smifter,
I haven't driven it yet, just got it running this morning before work. The carbs were given to me by an old (and very good!!) friend so I hadn't really any choice in the size.I still dont know what the cam is (it's marked AS17 on the end) so I dont know what chokes etc I should have (46mm at the mo) or if I can get them for 50s
Felicity,

Is the king lead to the distributor breaking down when its warm perhaps?

Or it could be the lumenition control unit itself...

How fat is your spark?

Hi Alun Thanks for you enquiry. So far we have had the
luminition system test.all clear.Do you mean. the coil lead?
the spark is very poor ,the connections between the lumminition module and the magic eye( in the distribitor)
has the wrong connections.it seems previous owner put the wrong ones onand cut the special pin and block connection off.I am hopeing the man my mechanic recommended can find something else to fix it.any more tips are welcome.Felicity&Trevor&Beastie
ive just bought a sprint which still has points. is it worth having electronic ignition fitted?

Re: lumenition
In my opinion YES, fit an electronic ignition. But as some would say, keep the points & condensor in the glove box in case the leccy ign. should ever fail. I've had one on my Sprint for about 7 years & it's never let me down yet (touch wood). The points on a Sprint tend to close up for a pastime. Not only that if you have wear in the dizzy you can never set the points gap accurately. A leccy ign. alleviates this problem altogether.
