ignition timing?

#1 Post by 947T » Tue May 31, 2005 11:24 pm

Hello everyone
Just fitted a magnatronic ignition system today and replaced plugs(unipart ones)
All went well and I was pretty proud of myself (not being the mechanical type)
BUT - the engine revs are now higher at idle. Used to be about 800-900 now 1200. Is this to be expected after fitting the new ignition and do I now need to adjust the timing?
The car runs well though.

And for those that answered my last question about the fuel hose replacement, thanks. Replacing that went well too. Replaced all pieces around the carbs. They weren't that bad when I got them off but a bit of planned preventative maintainence never hurt anyone, so they say. I replaced them with some that I bought from Halfords made by Goodyear.

Trying to think back to when I did mine, I think the timing does advance a bit so you'll need to tweak it back.
Is this likely to also be the cause of my running-on problem??

Ignition Timing

Yes, you will need to tweek the timing. I have also just fitted a Magnetronic system and I had to rotate my distributor anticlockwise as the timing was out by about 6 degrees (on the timing marks). I only just had enough room as the vacuum advance ended up touching some adjacent components.

Has anyone got a timing quadrant knocking around? Seems to be missing from my car...
