Proposhaft help needed - sprint
Just bought a dolly sprint (1974 - super bodywork, tired mechanicals). Propshaft feels as if it is about to drop off, particularly on take off in 1st. Checked the hardy spicer joints at gearbox end and axle end - they seem OK. (Thought the sprint prop only had one hardy spicer joint and 2 cv joints?).

Also checked the centre bush/bearing. You can easily waggle the prop shaft about in the rubber, a lot. - should this be the case?
Any recommendations for getting the propshaft rebuilt. Rimmers seem to want big money.

Thanks in advance

Re: Proposhaft help needed - sprint
You need a new centre bearing, it shouldn`t be flopping around in the rubber, try your local motor factors. I bought mine at one and it turned out to be the same as a sherpa item, as were the UJ`s.

Re: Proposhaft help needed - sprint
I've only ever had one Sprint that had two CV joints.

Re: Proposhaft help needed - sprint
Is the rubber collar of the centre bearing complete? What you could also be experiencing is the axle moving about as drive is taken up; check the eight sets of bushes which are supposed to hold it in place with a big pry bar, or possibly the rear gear box mount has failed.

I'll try the rear end bushes and axle/gearbox mounts as well. Plan is to completely rebush the car with superflex bushes.
