Slick 50 NOT TO BE USED IN O/D GEARBOXES!
Is this safe for Sprint engine & gearbox? I'm assuming there's no reason for it be unsafe, but wondered if anyone had some wise thoughts. Tried doing a thread search but found nowt.
Cheers
Slick 50
Slick 50 for the engine has ptfe particles in it.

Great, you might think, really slippy stuff..

But no - true it's slippy stuff, but it's also pretty much just very fine grinding paste - on a worn engine it might help, or at least not do any harm, but on a nice tight engine it will slowly grind away metal from moving surfaces... Making them more slippy cause they move more freely because there's simply less surface to surface contact possible!

That's the basics of what I remember about it anyway. Just use a good oil, IMO

Re: Slick 50
UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES put this into an overdrive gearbox. The overdrive relies to a certain extent on friction and slick 50 or any friction reducing additive is the last thing it needs! You will surely shag it!

Oh
Thanks for that, damn glad I checked as I was gonna pour the devil's fluid into my OD box in the next couple of days. Guess I'll stick to the EP90 then. <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... ohwell.gif ALT=":">

slick 50
I've had slick 50 in my 1850 engine before, ran quieter but given the cost (even at £5 off at Halfords) still a pricey way of not putting good oil in (which would cost less<img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... ohwell.gif ALT=":"> )...

Re: molyslip
Molyslip is good gear.

My regular oil "concoction" is made up from 1xtub of STP, 1xtin of molyslip and top-up with 10w/50 semi synthetic.

I also have a decent supply of castor oil, worth a dash in the sump just for the smell.
Put it in my kl 650 kawasaki at about 4000km Have ridden that bike half way around Oz A lot of dusty dirt roads included Its now has 65000 km on it and would possibly do it again, have only ever needed to replace one tappet shim because it was getting a bit too tight. The motor is still strong I ride it to work every day as all my cars are in pieces.<img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... s/roll.gif ALT=":rollin"> I change oil regularly around 1500 km , started out with synthetic but after the big trip changed to mineral. changed the filter every 2 or 3 oil changes. One day I will open it up and then I will maybe able to tell if it worked for sure.<img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... s/nerd.gif ALT="8o">

Strange - haven't seen it for years - used to put it in my Saab 900's, if I can find some I'll try it on the next dolly oil change (been using a 50/50 mix of 20/50 with 15/40 -don't ask why - just thought I'd experiment - runs quieter than on 20/50 and not as thin as 15/40)<img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... s/roll.gif ALT=":rollin">
