I've got a spare manifold here, but no gaskets or o-rings

Almost all together. Needs the alternator tensioner fitted (need to modify a tr7 one lost the 1850 part ) clutch pack and then it can be fitted
Adam

In all your work with both motors, have you noticed anything significantly different between an 1850 engine and the 2 Litre one.

I have an excellent low miles engine taken from an 1850, has no engine number but I'm told it is an TR7 2.0 litre but where it's already been in an 1850 all the bits have been swapped I would like to confirm it is one or the other.

Is there anything external that you have noticed between the two please, where you could of said, yes this is the TR7 motor and this is an 1850 one?

TR7`s have a heater take off on the back of the cylinder head , on the 1850 it has a blanking cover bolted in place.

Steve where this engine has already been in an 1850 would the pipe been left on (can it come off) or just blanked off (like in an 1850 with the 1850 banking plug) because it isn't needed?

Assuming the TR7 engine had been put in the Dolly complete with TR7 manifold and carbs I would hazard a guess that the heater take off on the head would have been left on.

No, this has the 1850 carbs/manifold on so I guess this means another dead end re verification of it being a 2.0 Litre?

If its been swapped....

Another difference is the flywheels and end plates.
If the dolly end plate is used it needs to have countersunk phillips holding it to the block to clear the fatter flywheel. If its been swapped for 1850 bits then chances are the only way is to measure the bore...
I reckon Jonners is right then, bore size is the only way. I really can`t understand why someone would go to the trouble of swapping to TR7 power only to strangle it with smaller carbs than it should have.

Do you know you have me wondering now if this DOES the 1850 cabs/manifold, it's been so long since I've looked properly at it (though I do turn it over manually now and again).

Guess what I'll be doing when I get home

If I were to measure the bores I'd take the sump off rather than the head.

Well as of yesterday it's in and it runs! Much better than the last one may I add! Doesn't make as much oil pressure but runs cooler, idles lower and smoother and the best bit... pulls much much better. Only took me an hour of pootling around before I gave in. Saw a 90s' clio with alloys and fart can exhaust and had to have him at the lights No contest, may well be quicker than Richards Sprint, I have no idea how my carbs are set up!

It also makes one awesome noise from the exhaust, the baffles could well of given up

Very happy ...But just 1 month of driving left

It just gets better...

Put the carbs back to base, 12 flats down and it pulls better again!

Then find out after talking to George that I've set my timing 11 degrees out of whack! I'll report back once thats sorted
