Camshaft identifying?
Camshaft identifying?
I have now taken off the cam cover to see what camshaft I have.

The following numbers are stamped on the shaft of the camshaft - Stan Part - 4/2 - MC 25229 - 88 - 3121 - 32

ANY HELP???

The yellow "Rusty" (DLB 665 T) has the Weber 45s and apparently this has a Stage II head?

Regards

ANDREW
BTW - If you have not seen the sorry state of this Dolly have a look at http://www.chesney.org (then click on Dog5)

Re: What Shaft?
Andrew - the all important number is stamped on the end of the camshaft nearest the bulkhead. You may need a mirror to read it unless the engine is out.

Re: What Shaft - KCDM S2?
Sounds like it could be a Kent Camshaft?? The last part of it seems to match the type name for it.
Scott, where do you get your cam specs from. I've looked on the Kent Cams website but can't see them there.

Re: What Shaft - KCDM S2?
Dear Scott

With this camshaft and a pair of 45 DCOEs, I should see some improvement???

BTW, I guess (all being well) this is a weekend job.

I have the head with the KCDMS2 cam in situ. Are there any special tools need to cahnge the head - it's been some 20 years ago I did this!

Whilst on the subject, is there a special head gasket I need and could anybody give a few "Tricks & Tips" they have had whilst changing a head.

ANY suggestions would be great.
Re: What Shaft?
Mart.

All I can tell you is that it isn't on the list.<img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... s/roll.gif ALT=":rollin"> C'mon what were you expecting?

Andrew.

There will definitely be a noticeable difference and that will be that it is going to run pretty rough until you get it set up professionally on a rolling road. They will probably have to change needle sizes etc to suit your cam combination and also to a certain extent what you want from the engine.

Once set up I reckon you could see a 30-40 bhp power increase over standard but this will be at the expense of below 3k rpm pull. Over that figure it will be alot of fun.

Are the 45's off of the yellow essex car or were they on your engine originally?
Re: What Shaft?
Dear Scott

The head and 45s are off the "Yellow Essex" so this should already be jetted.

I am in two minds to swap the whole engine from "Yellow Essex" to mine. I think I will stick with the head only and see how that goes.

Apparently, the Yellow Essex has a lightened/balanced crank and flywheel. I can get is running as the Yellow Essex has all the hoses and wires cut (been vandalised).

Any advice?? Do I swap the lot or just the head and carbs?
Re: What Shaft?
Andrew,

I wouldn't like to say. It sounds better than I originally thought as I'd assumed that the cam had come from the blue essex and the 45's from your car. (For some reason I thought the 45's on the yellow essex had been nicked.) As you say, they should have been matched by the PO.

If I was in your shoes, I'd have the yellow essex engine cleaned up and rebuilt with the parts you have. Its been standing a while (how many years?) I would personally want the re-assurance that everything was fresh and not going to leave me stranded. Also, god knows what those kids in Grays have chucked down the oil filler cap whilst wrecking everything else!
