Re: Lower rear suspension affect on Roll Centre height and axle nose angle

Lowering the rear suspension of a Sprint does raise the ‘roll centre’, which increases the propensity of the car driven on/near the limit to suddenly break away and likelihood of the car changing ends, rather than a progressive slide. One inch seems to be the recommending max lowering of the axle ...

Re: "MyGarage" version 2.2

Apologies, I should have given more precise information about the software, including the database and PC I am running it on, which is the same since I transferred the software to in June 2018 after the last PC died. At this time I had to update the MS SQL server software to the 2016 version and ...

"MyGarage" version 2.2 software has died - Any help much appreciated

Wasn't sure whether to reopen this 2009 thread or start a new one, but....

I've been running this software since 2008 (now on v2.2 I think) and despite having to update the SQL database software with a change of computer about 5 years ago, it has worked perfectly - I now have or rather had a huge ...

Re: Sprint Brake Discs

I would be surprised if a new disc would be at fault. I agree, from experience, with the previous comment about ensuring the hub and disc mating surfaces needs to be spotlessly clean (with no paint on the hub surface). Also double checking the wheel bearing/hub tightness and setting play at the ...

Re: How many Toledos worldwide?

Carjam.co.nz says the following are still recorded by NZTA. However, that will include anything 'on hold' as well as some that have been deregistered in the recent past due to not being registered or placed 'on hold' over the preceding two years. Same issues with vehicle model/descriptions with ...

Intermittent fuse blowing - Sprint (late 1977)

I've been unable to resolve this which has been going on for some months now. It is the lower of the two glass 35A fuses in the fuse box, the one that protects the 'ignition on' circuits.

I have checked and rechecked all these circuits, can't trace any shorting nor have ever been able to replicate ...

Re: Early Toledo front drum to disc conversion

Agree with Robert regarding a change to tandem master may not necessarily be an improvement. You would need to check if a standard system with a master cyl designed to operate all four wheel cylinders actually has the capacity with a tandem master to operate either 2 wheel circuit if the other ...

Re: Correct coil for Magnetronic Lumenition in a Sprint.

I’ve run the same unit as yours in my Pageant Sprint for a dozen years now and covered 25k miles without issue. I also used one in my racecar for an equal length of time.

If the coil you have came with a resistor and instructions say use that or the existing in car wiring (white/pink wire and white ...

Re: VA138, the next chapter....

I used a similar setup on my racecar in 2013. I use a small piece of heater hose to protect the pipes where they went through the gearbox casing. I took the bleed pipe back up to where the clutch master reservoir is and attached with a cable tie. Never had a single issue with it. Excellent product ...

Use of electric water pump and controller for extreme conditions

While racing my maple Sprint over the course of 17 years, the main cooling/ overheating issue I experienced was not during the race, but on return to the pits after the race. Even on an Auckland summer's day (low 30s centigrade) the standard Sprint pump at higher revs would circulate sufficient ...

Re: High torque starter motor

Hi Paul

I fitted a Roadrunner Hi Torq starter to my road car in Nov 2010. Since the it has covered about 25,000miles without issue. They happily fitted the extra terminal on the solenoid as that car still runs a ballast resistor circuit when starting. Fitting wasn't as easy as a standard but using ...

Re: Laminated replacement windscreen

I did have a new laminated screen fitted in Auckland but that was over a decade ago. At the time I was told that was the last in stock in NZ. I'm not aware of any now, but haven't looked as haven't needed one.

Assume you tried all the major suppliers / installers direct? Could they get one ...

Brian Culcheth - his book

Sorry to hear that Brian has passed. I haven't seen this month's magazine, but if anyone hasn't seen his book "Brian Culcheth - Global Travels of a Rally Champion" by Pablo Rayboult with Brian Culcheth, it is well worth a read. It covers Brian's rallying career from the start of the 1960s until the ...

Re: Advice on removing crankshaft pulley from an auto Sprint, engine in situ.

Thanks everyone. Yes, took the sump, pulley and front cover off tonight.

Found the rubber pad detached and almost undamaged stuck up under the front cover! Metal of the tensioner obviously been rubbing on the chain for quite a while. Not a pretty sight, worse than the last time back in 2013. Not ...

Advice on removing crankshaft pulley from an auto Sprint, engine in situ.

This started as an investigation into the increased rattling noise from the engine. Wear on the outside edge of the duplex camchain leads me to believe the camchain tensioner has shed the rubber pad. This engine previously did this back in May 2013 and the replacement tensioner has lasted over 9 ...
