Re: New toy to play with

Wasn't that engine derived from the Triumph straight six?

Derived from certainly but much improved. The bottom end was substantially beefed up to address the known weaknesses of the OHV engine. Cylinder head very much follows the Sprint layout in concept but with only two valves per cylinder ...

David Embery wrote: Thu Jan 09, 2025 2:42 pm Hi Sean,

Could I just ask a small additional favour?

Could you please measure one length side and one width side of the bracket?

Many thanks again

David

Re: Exhaust Support Bracket For 1850

Sorry for the delay, forgot I was at a Funeral!

Pictures as promised

Close inspection of the bracket suggests it may not be the original as its rather crudely made, it does however look like it's plated so maybe it is. It does not have the prong which ...

Re: Exhaust Support Bracket For 1850

OK, got that bit but took it off for the pics.

It's just a bit of metal folded, nothing fancy, will get you a picture tomorrow.

There is one caveat, my car had a none standard Stainless Steel exhaust on when I got it so this may have resulted in some alterations to the mounting arrangements ...

You can see the repair to the areas near the mounting holes where it previously fractured, you can also see its fractured on the bend too.

If you need me to post it to take measurements from I'm happy to ...

Re: Exhaust Support Bracket For 1850

More than happy to lend mine if that helps.

I'm due a workshop day tomorrow so will remove it and photograph it.

It's worth mentioning that I know mine has had work as it broke when the car was still on the road and I had to do a welded repair. How good that repair was will become apparent soon ...

Re: Exhaust Support Bracket For 1850

As per my comment on FB there's a bracket matching that description in the club spares list for £18, do they differ by year or is there no stock?

I can get you pictures of mine if that helps, its attached to my gearbox currently resting under my bench.

I think it's the wrong side for you but it does look like he has some.

Interesting that yours was injected at the top of the A post, mine only had a dose at the bottom, clearly there were variations in the way it was applied.

I think there were a few brands. My friend's Mum had a 1500HL with Dinitrol stickers all over it but it fared worse than my car which was 3 years older. It had a pretty knackered front valence and rear arches.

Re: Ziebart Treatment, a poll.

Mine was Ziebarted

Can't say it made a huge difference but I may be being harsh as it was in pretty good nick when I got it at 6 years old, it had certainly never been welded. It did have sills and front door skins a few years later and still rotted in most of the usual places.

I never understood ...
