Re: 1300 Endfloat in rear axle

Hi Ralph, The answer to your question may be in the early 1850 manual (sheet 2, 51.10.01 ) which is the only reference I have, being an 1850 merchant !

Now the 1300 / 1500 / 1850 rear axle casings are identical the only difference being the diff; gears and crown wheel.
The 1/2 shafts and bearings ...

Re: Steering

Hi Terry, I don't think its possible to get the connections to the steering joint the wrong way round.
Here is a piccy of the joints fitted to my 1850.
Yes the lower joint nut is quite close to the chassis metalwork. In my case I reckon its about 1/4in clearance from the the nearest bit.

HTH,
Tony.

Re: Fuel inlet pipe : an odd pipe union.

Hi Both, Thank you very much for your thoughts. Yes, Steve is quite right in that the car did spend the first few years of its life running around the Gaydon test track with a CVT unit installed. The documentation is a bit vague on the carburation but it may well have had a fuel injection system ...

Re: Lucas fuse box cover (4 fuse box)

Steve is quite right in that the 4-fuse box was never fitted as standard to any Dolomite.
However I do have one on my MGB.
If yours is the same, the 4-fuse box is part no 37H4727 and the cover is item 32 which is 37H4727A.

It may be a question of ringing around the MGB suppliers and seeing what ...

Fuel inlet pipe : an odd pipe union.

Hi All, I'm fitting a new fuel tank unit and just now I saw this extra pipe union from the filler neck to the petrol tank. Its been nicely brazed in and has a length of copper pipe and then a length of green polythene pipe wich was been doubled back on itself and sealed so it no longer goes anywhere ...

Re: Clutch alignment tool - 3 rod

Hi Paul, I have one of these as used on an early 1850.
It is marked " TR1 07 MG " .
It has 10 splines dia 22mm
then 17 mm dia x 12mm long
and then 12mm dia x 33mm long.
Any use ?
Cheers for now,
Tony.

Re: 1850 Clutch Change

Thanks Tony, very helpful. Seats are no issue (I've got a new set to put in anyway and I wouldn't mind giving the carpets a good clean) but how easy is it to drop the rear of the subframe? Is it easier just to remove the engine and 'box together from above or do I still need to drop the subframe ...

Re: 1850 Clutch Change

Hi Liessur, The big problem with all the 1850 clutches is the fork. 132080; It cracks on the pivot points and right now is NLA. But it is compatable with the GT6 / Vitesse / Herald so there are forks available on E-Bay.
Yes there are 2 variants of spigot bearing available. A phosphor broze one and a ...

Re: Electrical faullt

My first thoughts would be a problem with the IGN ON fuse. This is the one with the white cables on one side and the green cables on the other. You would have probably found that the brake lights, the heated rear window and the wipers, the reversing lights, and the indicators were all dead as well ...

Re: A couple of leaks

Hi Steve, Yes my 1850 wasn't used much over last winter and it was dribbling a bit from the cast-in slot. That was quite a surprise as I use EWC ( no water content ). As Alun says, run it for a couple of days and it may stop; mine did.
Keep in touch on this,
Cheers for now,
Tony.

Thank you !

1850/Sprint heater boxes.

What is the difference between the 913530 ( 1850 / Sprint ) and the 913534 ( 1500 non HL / 1300 ) heater boxes please ?
For instance is the water-valve the same on both ?
O.K. its an expensive solution to the new water valve or the parts ( RT1228 ).
This heater valve does seem to be unique to the ...
