Sounds like your ignition switch has failed. The switch is a completely separate component, with it's own harness, screwed into the back of the steering lock. If you take off the column shrouds you will see it. Should be a fairly easy replacement.

Not a good time of year to sell an MGB. Much better if you wait till some warmer weather comes back. I sold my roadster last summer and got a good price for it.

I put an O/D gearbox (single rail type) into my Dolomite 1850HL and I didn't need a different propshaft. The sliding joint was enough to take up the small difference in length.
