Re: Truimph dolomite ignition barrel
Sounds like your ignition switch has failed. The switch is a completely separate component, with it's own harness, screwed into the back of the steering lock. If you take off the column shrouds you will see it. Should be a fairly easy replacement.

Re: It's a funny old world.
Not a good time of year to sell an MGB. Much better if you wait till some warmer weather comes back. I sold my roadster last summer and got a good price for it.

Re: Large Feet!
I find that I have nowhere to plant my left foot when driving. Seat is fully back but legroom seems to be very short. Is this common on the Sprint?
It's common on all Dolomites. There is no room for a left foot rest, and you mustn't leave it on the clutch pedal. I pull my foot back slightly and ...

Re: choke light
The contact is made behind the choke knob and as you guessed earths through the cable. I had to pull the wire off mine as the light wouldn't go out. As far as I can see the only fix would be to buy a new cable assembly and I can't face the hassle of fitting a new one. My car needs the choke for such ...

Re: setting up Gaz suspension
Maybe Steve (Carledo) can help with this. I have Gaz adjustable dampers on my 1850. Since fitting them with standard springs a year or two ago, the fronts have settled a bit making it a bit low at the front. I have tried to raise the spring perch but there is so much pressure from the spring that I ...

Re: Need Help Dolomite HL 1850
A manual will definitely help. I should take Alun's offer of the Haynes book if I was you. Good luck if you need to remove the cylinder head. Removing the angled studs can be VERY difficult.

Re: waxstat jets?
Have a look at this YouTube video. The guy takes a long time to get to the business but here's what to do. He doesn't have any British pennies but that's what you should use, two pennies per carb. He makes the error of putting the spring in the wrong place at first but gets it right eventually. I ...

Re: waxstat jets?
Waxstats are the devil's invention. My advice is ditch them for normal jets, or at least remove the wax cartridges and replace them with two 2p coins. My car would start and run beautifully then after driving perfectly for a couple of miles (ie once the engine has warmed up) it started to lose power ...

Why does my 1850HL exhaust sound horrible?
My 1977 1850HL has the standard exhaust with the cross-ways silencer box and the tail pipe on the RH side of the car. I have checked and rechecked the exhaust and it is perfectly intact with no leaks. And yet the exhaust note is crummy, and doesn't sound at all sporty. It sounds for all the world as ...

Re: water pump
Yes the bolt is a left hand thread, but as Alun said a slide hammer may be needed to get it out, and then the cage may still be stuck inside. It can be a very difficult job. This is what mine looked like. The cage remained in my engine and was the very devil to get out. When you consider it is only ...

Yes, I read the original article he wrote for the Guardian newspaper, last Saturday. Apparently Rowan Atkinson has a degree in electrical and electronic engineering, with a master's in control systems, as well as a life long passion for cars. He, like many of us, thinks battery vehicles are a blind ...

Re: Fitting an overdrive to a 1500 Dolomite
I put an O/D gearbox (single rail type) into my Dolomite 1850HL and I didn't need a different propshaft. The sliding joint was enough to take up the small difference in length.
