Tyres
Tyres
I would like to get a new set of tyres for autocrossing next season but cannot find a decent set on this side of the pond that fit my needs 185/65 13 with a treadware around 180-200. In order to stay in a street tyre class the tyres have to have a treadware rating greater than 140. On US tyre websites this number is listed as UTQG then the number, the lower the number the stickier the tyre. My Yokohama AO48's for example have UTQG 60 rating. Do tyres in the UK have this number on the sidewall? I'm assuming all tyres come from the same factories. Where is a good place to get good tyre info and a selection of tyres in 13" size in the motherland?
Cheers

Re: Tyres
Hi Mark
I was looking at 185/65/13 tyres but there weren't many around in that size.

Re: Tyres
Most of them do (as most of them are also sold in the US) some tyres that aren't available over there don't have those markings as they're not needed anywhere else so they don't bother to put them through the testing to work out what it would be.KWM338R wrote:Do tyres in the UK have this number on the sidewall?
I've not seen anywhere selling tyres that tells you what the treadwear is.
Re: Tyres
Thanks Gents,
looks like if I want to stay in the street class I'm going to have to go to a 14" rim, that gives me a couple of options for decent tyres over here. That leaves me with another problem, where do I get 14" wheels stateside with 3.75"PCD? I think tr7 and 8's had 13" as standard.
Cheers

Re: Tyres
Can you run 15"? MGFs have the correct PCD iirc. I think Geoff Sparks has them on his track Sprint.
Offset is 30-35mm.

Re: Tyres
Hello Mart,
I believe I can run 15", it's pretty informal and being such an unusual car here I don't think anyone would care that it is running oversize wheels. My only concern would be rubbing, though I do have a big hammer. Are MGF wheel easy to get hold of? I would have to have a set sent over if nothing turns up locally.
Cheers

Loads on ebay UK and pretty cheap. Shouldn't be too expensive to send across the pond. Are MGF wheel easy to get hold of? I would have to have a set sent over if nothing turns up locally.
I don't know about clearance though. Perhaps others on here have tried them?

Re: Tyres
Would the studs need to be changed to fit the new nuts if MGF wheels are fitted?

Re: Tyres
You'll struggle to find anything in the US with that PCD I should think, the last car to get exported with it would have been the Austin Marina!
Maestro wheels would be 14" steels which might work.
