Speedo advice

#1 Post by ToledoZombie »

Since having the Tolly the speedo has never worked.
Thinking it was the cable i bought a new Dolly one (so as to be correct for my gearbox. I found that the end on the original was oval but the Dolly is square at both ends.
I knew that it wouldnt fit to my speedo gauge as the new cable is held onto the back by a thread whereas the Tolly gauge is a clip on fitting. "So" ! i grabbed out of the garage what i thought to be the correct type speedo gauge. Very similar except it goes up to 120mph on the clock instead of my 100mph tolly gauge, also it has a threaded connection for the cable.
So into the car it went.
Only to find that the nut on my new cable is larger than the thread on the speedo!!!
So what i'm asking is this, What speedo is it that i have and what type do i need to fit the new cable?
Any help is much appreciated as i would love to sort this and finally know what speeds i'm pootling along at.

Hmm, my Dolly speedometer has a bayonet fitting at the instrument end of the cable, so a screw-in one is either for a later Dolomite (though surely the bayonet was the more modern way to do the job) or something completely different.

Someone will know, that's for sure.

My '78 Dolly is a bayonet fitting.
The '79 one Justyn now has was also a bayonet.

Sprints use the screw on type with 140mph dial, similar to the T2500 but they have the voltage regulator on the back.
All other smaller engine dollies have the bayonet type (although I've never had an 1850 so don't know about these).

If you want less than 140mph maybe a T2000 would do??

Cheers

ok here is the link for the cable i have bought. complete with part numbers

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... K:MEWNX:IT

I bought this as i have a sprint gearbox, and mistakenly thought that this cable would fit onto the threads of the other speedometer that i have, but the nut is too large.

After popping on the Rimmer website, it looks as though the cable i have is for one of the overdrive models!
I did buy mine off ebay :? so as the advert says its for non o/d i will try and send back.
What i need is a sprint cable with bayonet fitting.
