Thanks for organising this event Justyn.
I must admit that there was a better turn-out than I had imagined due to the inclement weather, so well done to everyone for making the effort. Myself & Mary almost changed our minds about attending when we looked out to see it absolutely chucking it down, but I'm glad we made the effort as we had a great time catching up with old acquaintances & speaking with new faces.
We had a slight breakdown on the way, about 55 miles from the venue. The engine kept cutting out (going back to the old thread on the forum). I thought I had sorted it but obviously not. It turned out to be a dodgy connection on the
new set of points & a slight tug pulled the wire out of the connector. So I bared the end of the wire & shoved it in between the connectors. THJ then drove faultlessly the rest of the way. Quote me happy.
Unfortunately on the way home we broke down again. THJ had been brilliant all the way until we got about 30 miles from home (place called Ashcott). The engine started to splutter & then it felt like it was only running on 2-3 cylinders. Then it stopped completely & I just about managed to pull in off the busy road. I tried several times but it refused to start. I had a look under the bonnet, suspecting fuel starvation, but not having any tools on me

there wasn't a lot I could do. I tried several more times but it wouldn't start. So I had no option but to call the AA out. The man arrived about 1½ later by which time I had got it running again. Basically, after about ½ hour of waiting, I decided to give it another go. It spluttered a bit but then picked up & started revving freely on all cylinders. Anyway, the AA man followed me for a few miles to make sure it wasn't going to happen again. It didn't & we went merrily on our way. It was fine for the rest of the journey except for maybe 2-3 misses.
I'll have a look at the float bowls & fuel pump filter to see if any carp has got in, maybe tomorrow.
The joys of driving an old British car.
