Love that SD1. I remember, as a kid, the day my father brought home the ex-police one he'd acquired (he was a police advanced wing driving instructor, so knew the car's history). I thought it was the dog's, and it still looks great!

Your car is looking beautiful. It looks a lot warmer down there than it is here. The roads are all sticky and salty here!

That is a seriously early SD1 on a P plate.
Is it a pre production one?

Love the picture of the two cars together, you can see why the SD1 was thought as a cutting edge modern car, the dear old Dolomite does look like a car from a much earlier era when you see them together like that.

Hi All,
Really showing my age now but I saw the SDI body shells at Cowley in 1974 when I was there doing a Marina mech course
in 1974. They really looked ahead of the times and in the background on a frieght train was Rolls Royce body shells
awaiting their departure. GW

Thanks for the nice comments.
Jonners:
MOL 385P "Molly" is a 1976 "P" reg 3500 Auto. She was built in May 1976 under Longbridge Management Car Scheme order number B001593 with the tag "Whittaker", popping off the end of the production line on June the 10th and she made her way to to Longbridge two weeks later.
She was registered at Longbridge 2 days before the public launch on 28th June 76 and become the personal transport of the director of Leyland Cars - Derek Whittaker. Subsequently she was passed onto former Rover Cars chairman Albert B Smith .
Reg :
she is Midas gold.
She has a genuine 55k on the clock.

Dolly I have owned for 20 yrs. She is auto and has a genuine 53k on the clock, I got her when she had 28k on the clock and I am the second owner.
I had looked after her for six years previous to purchasing her for £200, the Old boy that owned her wanted my to have her as he wanted her to go to a good home. I gave him £200 (he named the price) and promised him that I would bring her back to glory and would not sell her on! He did get to see the results before he passed on a few years later.
Cheers for now.

Lovely cars indeed. The Rover looks like a car from the future next to the Sprint. No wonder BL struggled to sell the Dolly in later years.

Thanks for sharing with us.
