Sprint water pump removal
Guy's
Help required - please.
I need to replace the water seal on my water pump, I've removed the alloy cover from the block, I have placed a ring spanner on the spindle nut and I have horizontal movement or side to side movement - i'm thinking if I rotate the pump assemble to the right should it wind its self up of the jack shaft - if not how do you remove the pump assembly.
My manual does not going into greater detail as I would like.
Quote from manual:
Using a spanner on the impeller centre bolt, turn clockwise until either:
a. The water pump is released from the jackshaft gear and it can be withdrawn
b. the centre bolt is removed
if b applies attach special inpact tool and adaptor to remove pump
Regards
paul

Usually 'b' will happen. You then either insert a slide hammer or use a large washer & a couple of screwdrivers (or whatever) to prise it upwards.
Sprintless for the first time in 35+ years.
... Still Sprintless.
Engines, Gearboxes, Overdrives etc. rebuilt. PM me.

Re: Sprint water pump removal
Usually getting the pump out isn't the biggest problem, the brass cage can be a bit of a pain to remove.
Easily solved with this simple tool I made of bits lying around in the garage ...

Beans your kit looks beautiful, as always.
I made one out of garage junk very much like Mad Mart's and it worked perfectly.

Mine always bump out with a slide hammer if they stay put. Never quite worked out why they stick being brass and only 2 O rings...
Some folks must just be unlucky.

I've always wondered that, but I've had plenty that leave the cage in and it just won't budge. I always put a smear of grease on them when replacing.

Re: Sprint water pump removal
Typically "b' will happen; so I then put a larger washer under the bolt and threaded it back in. That gives you more to pry up on if you don't have a slide hammer. But its easier with a hammer, even if you have to make one up. I made a simple slide hammer out of old plumbing parts and bolts.

My pump came out easily, so all I had to do was get the brass cage out. I used a 1/2" carriage bolt at the bottom of the slide hammer. You can insert that through the cage, hook the bottom and tap it right out.

Good luck!
