Congrats on choosing a Redtop but why on earth use a Ford gearbox? The Manta/Carlton/ Omega 5 speed is much shorter and lighter and has an easily shortenable gearshift extension. Needless to say, it also bolts to the redtop without an adaptor plate and, in Omega guise, has a concentric hydraulic slave cylinder which matches to a standard Triumph master (though to use this I needed a thicker Carlton flywheel on my car)
The gearbox is plenty strong enough being the same as is used on the V6 and diesel cars.
Since this car is fairly obviously going to be a racer I will not at this point question your use of near solid engine mounts but I hope you have a good dentist to replace all those fillings!
Checkout Ians similar Redtop Sprint in the resto section and my Carledo's Way thread for helpful hints!

Yes the vauxhall gearbox does have it's pluses.

But so does the ford unit. Easily obtainable rebuild parts and ratios from places like Burton power and Quaife for instance.

Everyone has their own way of doing things :-).

Engine mounts. Yes I realise that they're almost solid but the bushes aren't that hard. I would guess at somewhere between rubber and hardish poly bushes.

Oh and by the way this is going to be a race legal track day car. Which in the end is what I find myself wanting.

Any more questions?

As it happens, whilst I write this post I am sat in the infield at Silverstone watching a rather good pink floyd tribute band, with a pint! Cheers! :strummin: :jump4joy: :jump4joy:

Hi
I don't think the engine mounts are going to be an issue re vibration. As I can see in your photos you have mounted to the subframe, not directly to the body so you should get good isolation of the engine from the body from the subframe bushes as designed.

When I changed from my chassis (body) mounts to subframe mounts i didn't actually see much change in vibration levels!, perhaps just lost a bit of harshness that I had previously. Mine now has well over a thousand miles on it and it flys! Yours should make a very usable track day car. I find mine is actually more fun to drive than my track ready BMW M635csi.

Check you PM's re availability of my old sump should you need it.

As a weird coincidence I went to have my MX5 roof fixed today. I arrived at a farm unit near Knutsford and spotted a Dolomite shaped car undergoing work. On closer inspecition it was Pete's car complete with Alan working on the gearbox!

We had a good chat about the project and it was nice to see the car for real, work certainly looks good and it'll be a great car when it is finished.

Pete

Slight change in the subject - applogies for that.

I saw the TR7 two rows up from our club stand. Did you see the TR7 rally car and the blue Renault R8 Gordini.

Regards
Paul.
