so, behold our next creation!

im not going to tell you what it is....

we started with some CAD/CAE (cardboard aided design/engineering)



then this....



....with bits cut out...



a few bends...



...welded....



oh dear, a HOLE!



can you tell what it is yet? (sorry about the 'joke')



hole drilled in brake pedal and bush thingy inserted



pedal reinforced



assembled. you should be able to guess what it is by now.....



tadaaa!



and there we have it, a dolomite with an inbuilt bias pedal box......what do you think?

Reminds me, a nice colour is GM Cardinal Red. It was the colour of Mum's Chevette I mentioned at the weekend. It's a nice bright colour and will give you that all important Triumph/GM link.

we're back again!

progress on the gearbox mount.

we are using a standard sprint mount (just turned round to face the other way)

this piece of box section then sits on top of it...



and then an uprated gearbox mount for the type9 itself sits on top of this...



here you can see the whole assembly. gearbox at the top, type9 mount in the middle on top of the box section and then the sprint mount underneath.



this is looking from the back (towards the front)



off the car and in the vice ready for welding



welded!



and here is the complete assembly. fully welded up. the engine and gearbox are now supported on their own mounts

sorry to the people who are still interested, i have been neglecting my duties with respect to updating this thread!

that doesnt mean that me and Alan haven't been busy.....see below

i'll try my best to keep it brief but there is quuuuite alot of pictures..... enjoy!

since the engine mount on the O/S is fixed to the subframe behind the original engine mount, we decided to cut the front half of it off, like this:



creating this



we also noticed that the welding on the subframe itself was in places, atrocious. definitely a Friday afternoon job.....



so we beefed it up. feel alot better about the structural integrity now!



it was especially bad on the stiffener ribs on the inside of the engine mounts. probably < 3 inches of total weld length holding it in! we fixed that too



that's it for now! (there's another post on its way i'm just trying to split the pictures up a bit...)

since i am A) rather long in the leg. and B) going to be sitting in a bucket seat which is alot closer to the floor than an original seat, i needed to be sat further back.



this just extends the available floor space on which we can fit the seat. obviously it is repeated on the outside of the car and on the passenger side.

the next issue was seatbelt mountings. in racecars and trackday cars of both past and present, seatbelts have mostly been attached to the floor. this is far from ideal, and is frowned up by scrutineers.

so instead, we built this.







and of course, there is 2 of these.

here i am, sitting in it! i'm wearing my helmet so we can check for clearance to the roof. (there was loads of space). also, visibility is alot better than i was expecting.

from the start i have maintained that i didn't want to use an OE dolomite heater. it is big and bulky and i wasn't convinced that it actually adds much to the car.

however, i do need a demist. which is where this very cute and dinky heater comes in. the matrix is about 4x5x1.5 inches in size, with a powerful fan attached.



notice the angled bracket and spacing box section



said angled brackets welded to bulkhead and spacing box section attached.



and the heater attached to the box section. we then fabricated a plenum type affair to go between the outlet of the fan to the original dolomite demist duct.

we had to cut it off to make the fibreglass tunnel (a club part) fit. i think it was the car that was the wrong shape and not the tunnel though!



looks good though now it is attached



and then we started making some large spreader plates to affix around the bottom of the tunnel itself. this should spread the load of the smallish fixings without having to use big ugly washers!
