Misting up.

#1 Post by MIG Wielder »

Do you have a good solution to the problem of safety goggles misting up when using them with a face mask while using the angle grinder ? None of the standard de-misting fluids seem very good; the goggles are vented underneath supposedly to get airflow through, but again it doesn't seem to work very well.
Thanks very much,
Tony.

Use a fan to blow air across your face, but make sure it is not blowing the grinding material in your direction.

Not tried this myself, although sometimes when I am using my angle grinder if the breeze from the grinders motor cooling fan happens to be blowing towards me the goggles stay clear

If you hold your breath then you won't steam up nearly as much!

Or try some safety glasses which tend to have more ventilation. I have some good wraparound type ones which are actually higher rated than my goggle mask and don't mist up.

Strange you should ask this as today with my new mask i was using earlier I have the glasses misting up so much they were wet inside and was going to post the same question.
Some people are like Slinky's, they serve no real purpose in life but bring a smile to your face when you push them down the stairs.

..... I've just acquired one of these. Its a " Forestry helmet " with a clear visor and ear defenders for less than £30. And it works really well. I'm impressed. It is quite heavy on the head though.

This sort of thing.

Might be worth going to army surplus for some "anti-dim". Used to prevent lenses misting up when using a respirator. Seem to recall it was very effective, not that we wore respirators much in the Navy.

This gets good reviews, never used it myself:

Make sure that your mask fits snugly and use a bit of masking tape to tape it to your nose This will stop your breath getting in to your goggles.

Works for me.
