Sprint exhaust rubbers
Sprint exhaust rubbers
I replaced all the rubber exhaust hangers on my Sprint just under a year ago and they've perished and started to break already!
Any suggestion on a decent part that will actually last?

Re: Sprint exhaust rubbers
When you buy new, put a zip tie tight-ish around it to stop the stretching so much. Makes them last longer.

Re: Sprint exhaust rubbers
Howard, this is typical of modern rubber. It doesn't last 2 minutes. Carb mounts are exactly the same.

Re: Sprint exhaust rubbers
Bit unfair. Typical of repro cheaply made parts yes. But the rubber stuff on a brand new car lasts indefinitely. The trick is to find something OE that fits (or can be made to fit)......
Not sure if polyurethane stuff would work? That is probably available, but again quality will depend on source.

Re: Sprint exhaust rubbers
The cable tie trick does help Howard but probably the best route to go would be the OE mounts off something modern as Clive said.
Re: Sprint exhaust rubbers
Thanks, I never actually thought of that! There's a VW dealer around the corner from me so I'll pop in there to see if they have anything suitable
I'll try the cable tie trick too.
Cheers

Re: Sprint exhaust rubbers
I'd agree with Clive. The OE stuff is infinitely better than the aftermarket stuff and it isn't restricted to rubber either. My Astra needed a replacement EGR valve last year so I bought a Delphi one which is OE. It cost me but it was money well spent because it hasn't given me a moment's bother ever since it was fitted.

Okay.....
There is a Ford mount which has very nearly the same face size but is twice as thick!
You can cut one down to make two Sprint hangers
.
If you go to a motor factor with a sample they can use their parts book chart to get a match.......
A more expensive option is to use polyurethane which is available from the motorsport dealers.
