NORTHERN IRELANDS,, LAST SPRINT ????,,,

#1 Post by DAVE944 »

HI TO ALL And thank you for letting me join .. Im Dave from Belfast northern Ireland and I love dollies.. this is my story so far..

THE STORY OF NORTHERN IRELANDS DOLLY SPRINT.
Last week I took this we dolly from certain death. AS far as we know She is the very last of her kind ever registered in northern Ireland. With 65000 miles on the clock. vin no. KLZ5547 reg APRIL 1982 Chassis number VA31178 which does make her one of the last sprints ever to reach northern ireland .she has not had a hard life but some bad tin worm has got in when she was stuck under bushes for nearly eight years her engine stripped out and stripped down and left to rust but thankfully all seems to be present and correct more or less lol..So i washed her down the get out the tree parts and all the spiders washed away. When she was dry I was shocked to see how the car paint on the boot lid cleaned up after over 30 years of wear. When she was dry I brought her in and began stripping out the doors, glass. and the remainder of the interior. Next thing to do was to check the rot ,,,, not nice but had to be done.so I got her up on her side and started to work on the rear of the boot .The boot floor is very bad behind the rear wheels but the centre is useable so I made up a new section for the o/side and began to mig weld it in as you can see in the piks it fitted fairly well and now we have one side of the boot floor repaired ..I would have bought a new floor but £200.00 from rimmers is way to much for this easy made panel.

P,S HOW DO I UPLOAD PIKS CANT GET IT TO WORK.NEWBIE PROBLEMS LOL

HI PEEPS. I think when I said about it being the last one I was talking about the last one in northern Ireland according to dva there was no other sprint brought over here after this car. This seems to then be
the last dolly sprint first registered in northern Ireland ....This isint important im just going on a bit of info I got from DVA insider.... What more important is that I get her sorted and restored..
pictures upload as follows .boot floor sort of repaired although more paned shaping to follow as soon as I repair the n/side frloor

Hi alun thank you for the info on the floor panels my floor would still need plated after I bought any of them due to the panes size,,.So on that we one budd il just have to fabricate my own floor from flat sheet steel.
Joining the club asap and going to buy panels as I will need some

Hi Dave Lol and welcome to what is probably the finest, friendliest and helpful forum in the world!

It's certainly very worthwhile becoming a fully paid up member! :)

To post pics look at this thread..

viewtopic.php?f=4&t=23338

You will need a photobucket or similar account first though, through which you will host the pictures. ...it will become second nature after a while!

Looking fwd to seeing how it looks! :)
Come and see some pretty shoddy, slow driving of a really well prepared competition Sprint here!

Welcome to the forum.

Photos are an absolute must. It is best to upload them to a hosting site. I use Photobucket but there are others available. You will need to create an account, upload your photos and then put the links in your post. It is easy once you get the hang of it. Please join the Club. It is worth every penny of the membership fee. Keep us updated with your progress.

Unfortunately your car is NOT one of the last Sprints made, it is one of the last ten which were allocated the early VIN with the VA prefix. This changed on 01 09 1979 when new 16 digit VIN were introduced. There are many Sprints made after your's which carried the new style VIN.

Had you paid £200 for a boot floor from Rimmers, you would have been likely disappointed with its quality and authenticity. These at £72.00 per side are spot on and zintec coated:

I agree with Alun, the club boot floor panels are the mutts nuts! :D

Yes, I am afraid that yours isn't one of the last 10 built. Mine is, I have been to Gaydon and trawled through the production records and the chassis number starts with TWTLD5AT. This is the case for all post rationalisation cars I believe. I did a post on the final batch a while back.

Rot wise it sounds like your's is about the same as mine, especially with the boot floor. Lots of pictures please and good luck with the resto! :D

What's the plate on the 1850 auto? I know of 4 of the same year and colour on my database. You can send me a PM if you'd rather not reveal the reg on here.

These cars get right under your skin.
