Oh and to think a little strip of spring steel used to be the norm in the past, and never caused a problem.

Jon, that was way before the full hydraulic age.

Well if I was racing a sprint engined car I would build it with a solid cam guide possibly made from Nylatron or Nylon 66 and when the engine rattled a bit just move it in a touch.
Race engines would be rebuilt each year anyway so the wear would not be an issue unlike a broken tensioner which kills the engine.

Inspired by Carledo's recent post in this thread:

viewtopic.php?f=4&t=30306&start=45

I thought I'd Google the SAAB 99 chain tensioner. The first item I found was:

http://www.saabrally.com/forums/viewtop ... f=2&t=3905

which seems to show the SAAB boys are also having to use Rolons!

However, I also found this:

http://www.skandix.de/en/spare-parts/en ... n/1007619/

where they say they sell their "own-label" part, although it might still be no better than the Rolon.

Has anyone taken a look at the S3 Landrover version?
The land rover one has a slightly different profile.

Club members will be happy to know that we are looking into a source of good quality tensioners to hold as club stock.
