I looked for my old fuel pump today to no avail.
However I do remember the arm was more of a crescent as opposed to your picture which has a lot more of a hook.

The ones I have are made of a sort of hard plasticky material - a bit like tufnol.
Guess the thinking was thermal insulation to stop vapour locks?
