I'm electrically challenged and need advice

#1 Post by Sundowner »

Hi,
I'm presently wiring up a new thermatic fan in my SPRINT.
I've got it all done with the exception of finding an ignition source.
The instructions only indicate a wire with no end, looking a bit like this ___________ IGNITION (+ve)
The wire is on the right hand side of the engine bay and I'd like to know where/what is a good point for me to hook it up to. Hopefully, without having to go through the firewall.
Thanks & Cheers,
Rob

Just connect the wire to the fuse box in the same place as all the green wires. This part of the fuse box is only live when the ignition is on.

Engines, Gearboxes, Overdrives etc. rebuilt. PM me.

And if you want your wipers keep working when the fan starts you can have it connected to the white wire side and fit an extra fuse in that fan wire.

Wot he said^^^^^^^!
If you connect to the green side you will overload the poor little fuse when the fan cuts in. Draw from the unfused (white wire) side and either feed a line fuse or a secondary box, which will be useful for other electrical toys too! (No not THAT sort    )

Thanks for the replies Gents.
I'll hook it into a convenient white wire then.
I've installed an inline fuse that came with the kit.
The fan works perfectly when I (temporarily) hook it up live to the battery. So I must have done something right.

Gents,
Its all done and working perfectly.
I used one of the white wires leading into the fuses as the take off point.
Thanks for the advice......confirms my belief that this is a great forum.
Cheers,
Rob
