Interior light electrics
It's been a few years since I removed my headlining, when I did I remember seeing a long single electric wire that was behind the lining. Now I can't remember where it's was routed and I never known what it was actually doing. It's long enough to reach the opposite side of the car to the light switch but should it be connected to anything? I have a bunch of cable's on the driver's side light switch position that I assume would be for a LHD car, but this single wire is a mystery, any thoughts?
Re: Interior light electrics
Which one you thinking? (I was surprised to see that all rear electrics go via the roof!)

I've not come across that before. All the Sprints I have owned the loom went along the passenger side floor.
Sprintless for the first time in 35+ years.
... Still Sprintless.
Engines, Gearboxes, Overdrives etc. rebuilt. PM me.

What Mart said^^^^^^^^
Only the interior light harness goes up the n/s "a" pillar into the roof, the rest goes along the passenger sill/floor join.
Your loose wire will probably go to one of the o/s pillar switches, I think the one for the o/s/r door as I believe the o/s/f one comes from the main loom, not as shown in the parts list. the wire is either black or black with purple trace, can't quite remember.

Well you know, hence my surprise! Seriously, just how much high grade pot was that lot smoking up in Canley in 1975? If it's not the infamous sticky outee or sticky inee steering column bush, it's the wiring loom with a mind of it's own...
Right, that's it

One of those documented good intentions where the shop floor just said "Nah, we'll do it like this thanks..." but never told anybody in the parts book department.

I must admit that the looms seem to be longer than necessary.

Re: Interior light electrics
Thanks for the replies, it's not a surprise that there's no standard, but looking at the picture, thanks Galileo, I'm thinking its the one across the roof, 159863. I will have to look to see if it's obviously detached from the driver's side. Thinking about it I now have a big hole in the roof, don't ask, that the Webasto will go into, so it will not reach now. Headlining is being fitted in couple of weeks so I need to sort this out. Will try and add pictures as well but have never been able to post them.

Re: Interior light electrics
I would defy anybody to run the wiring loom up the left hand A pillar. There is simply no room either within the pillar itself or up behind the plastic trim.
I mounted an aerial in the centre of my roof and had a dickens of a job working the aerial lead down inside the pillar for it fouled at the top where the pillar joins the roof.
The loom has to go along the passenger floor. Somewhere I have a service bulletin which was issued to all dealers which gave some instructions on where to place it correctly if it has been disturbed and how to tape it. I shall try and locate it tomorrow.
Jonners is correct in that the designers and those writing the parts book might have the intention of running the wiring loom up along the roof but nobody had consulted with those on the shop floor who had to build the car.
I discovered the same sort of situation with the Sprint exhaust heat shield which is riveted to the firewall. It becomes well nigh impossible to remove the downpipe from the exhaust manifold, until that heat shield is removed. It was never a problem at the factory for I doubt that anybody tried to remove the cylinder head with the engine in the car. They would drop the whole engine and gearbox out on the subframe, without disturbing that exhaust connection so they never found the problem.
No doubt those who attempted to service cylinder heads out in the dealerships growled that the instructions given in the service manual simply did not work. I discovered that if that heat shield is bolted rather than riveted and is removed before the exhaust downpipe is unbolted off the manifold, that the downpipe will come apart off the manifold studs quite easily.
I will try and locate that service bulletin tomorrow and post it here.

Re: Interior light electrics
Been over to the lockup and had another good look, it's definitely a single wire that should run from the passenger interior light across the roof to the same position on the driver's side. It's then soldered to the wires from the driver's side door switch wires, which in turn go down the driver's 'A' post inside and the 'B' post inside. The very nice man who cut a big hole in my roof then decided he couldn't fit a sunroof after all, has cut the wire right up against the soldererd joint, which made it almost It impossible to see. That now solve, I now need to find a way of getting the driver's switch wire back down the 'A' post as its been pulled up a bit. Not looking forward to that based on what Robert 352 has just said.

Strong fishing line with those pinch on weight's or some 6 square mm cooker cable (red or black strand only) attach the cable to the pull through and feed the cable or fishing line from the top of the "A" pillar - you need to make a pull through.georgethompson730 wrote: I now need to find a way of getting the driver's switch wire back down the 'A' post as its been pulled up a bit. Re: Interior light electrics
Paul is correct, you will need to make a pull through of some sort.
You will only be trying to pull up the A pillar the wiring for the interior light and the feed which goes across to the RH rear door. That wire is taped to the roof and sits under the sound deadening pads which are also glued to the roof.
I found that there was ample room for those two (?) wires and their connectors but certainly not for the main wiring loom and all its plugs. My battle was sliding the male connector of the radio aerial down past all the obstructions.
Here is a copy of the Triumph Service sheet which makes reference to the main wiring loom which runs across the floor on the passenger side. It is self explanatory. Robert

Is there an online resource of the old technical bulletins Robert?
